SNACKS

Each parent of a preschool child is to supply a snack for their own child consisting of a couple food items and a drink.

ILLNESS
If a child is feeling ill and is unable to participate in preschool activities, is contagious to others or requires dedicated care, it is best for their recovery and for the others that they would come in contact with, that they recuperate at home. If a child becomes ill while attending the preschool, the child's parent will be contacted and is then responsible for picking their child up immediately. When a child, teacher, or parent helper has contracted a communicable disease, that individual must refrain from attending preschool until the allotted contagious period has elapsed and general illness has run its course. Please contact the teacher if your child will not be attending class for any reason.

DISCIPLINE
The preschool caregivers use positive discipline to maintain safety and to help establish harmonious relationships among the children. All behavioural issues will be handled in a non-punitive manner.  Methods of distraction, reasoning, clarifying and separating will be practiced.  The children will be encouraged to share, take turns and to work out their own problems.  The teacher will practice active listening, positive reinforcement and empathy. In situations where the teacher finds it important to intervene, it may be necessary for the children to have a time out.  If this occurs, the parents will be informed that day.  During and after any confrontations, the teacher will guide the children with problem solving skills. The child's parents may be contacted to remove the child for the day if: discipline attempts are not effective, and the child has been given a minimum of three opportunities to change his or her behaviour, and the teacher and/or parent helper are unable to perform regular duties due to negative physical or verbal behaviour
